The governor of Benue state, Hyaccinth Alia has reacted to the controversy Peter Obi failed visit to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Benue.

 

Recall that Mr. Peter Obi had taken to his X handle to express his frustration at the leadership of Benue state over the governor’s security directive which denied Mr. Peter Obi access to the State’s IDP camp. Peter Obi had visited Plateau state to sympathize with the state leadership over terror attack on the state which claimed more than 50 lives.

He was en route Benue by road for similar visit when the governor’s ADC communicated the governor’s no-visit directive to Peter Obi.

In his reaction to the widely broadcasted security warning as well as directive from the Benue state ADC, Mr. Peter Obi chided the governor for politicizing his intended humanitarian intervention on the internally displaced persons in the state. He enjoined the governor to place human needs above his prejudice and political gains.

However, governor Alia who spoke on TVC over the security crisis in his state, remarked that Peter failed to abide by protocols while seeking to visit the IDP camp. He said Obi disregarded due process required by high profile personalities to follow is such an occasion.

According to him, Peter Obi neither informed his political party leaders in Benue nor made a direct attempt at communicating his visit directly to him other than directing his ADC to communicate his visit to the office of the governor.

He added that the onus to secure the vulnerable displaced persons in the camp lie on him and as such, he would do everything within his power to ensure the safety of the IDP; including denying authorized visits to the camp such as Peter Obi’s
