The former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed the chat he had with the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde. In a discussion on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Fayose, on the 18th of April, addressed circulating rumors regarding Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s potential candidacy in the 2027 presidential election.
The former Ekiti State Governor also asserted that Seyi Makinde had confined in him that he had no intention of running and was not aware of the campaign materials being promoted online on his behalf.
During the discussion, Fayose was asked, If you have a Seyi Makinde, a Peter Obi, and a Bola Tinubu on the ballot in 2027, whom would your vote go to?”
Fayose answered:
“Let me say to you. When i saw an advert running on the social media. With all due respect to Governor Seyi Makinde, I forwarded it to him and he called me. And he said he is not running. And he said he doesn’t know anything about that flyer, that there were some boys flying it. He has not told me otherwise. And let me say to you, I will not put words in his mouth. I will rather believe whatever he said to me as a brother. And he told me that he is not going to be the person that would be used against a Yoruba man as a President, I stand to be corrected.”
Further, the moderator of the program, in a quest to get the governor’s stand, brought to mind the current economic state of the nation and how people are agitating for something or someone better.
He then asked the ex-governor if the LP’s 2023 flag bearer, Peter Obi, was a better option for him. To this, Fayose responded by bringing back the pictures from the days of Obasanjo and Olufalaye, and how people noted that Olufalaye would have done better. He also pointed out that Obasanjo spent eight years and ushered in the Yaradua administration, which later transitioned to Jonathan’s administration, where people clamoured that he must go because an angel was coming.
The angel, according to the ex-governor, was “their Buhari,” whom he has noted that he won’t be answering a yes or no on the issue of he he ruled well.
Fayose went further to assert that you can never satisfy people, and you are not honourable until you leave the seat. He used former president Goodluck Jonathan to buttress this point. He stated that “people are now saying that Jonathan should come back, the same Jonathan that they drove after many years passed.” He then asserted that “it is best to allow an Asiwaju to complete his tenure, conclude his tenure because this is a southern slot.”
