What I will advice Atiku Abubakar about his 2027 ambition – Hakeem Baba Ahmed

Outspoken leader of the Northern Elder Forum, Hakeem Baba Ahmed who recently resigned from his position as Adviser to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu on political matters, has enjoined former vice president Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambition.

Hakeem Baba Ahmed while speaking on Channels Tv on 1st of May, 2025 had claimed that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is too old to be presiding over the affairs of the Nigerian nation amid its numerous challenges.

He said that if he had met president Bola Ahmed Tinubu before his vying for the presidential seat in 2023, he would have advised the now Nigeria’s president to shove his ambition and allow a younger person run in his place.

Similarly, he maintains that Atiku Abubakar should not contest in 2023 but play a fatherly role to a younger candidate who he said will have an edge over the incumbent aged, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his words: “if I were to have a chat with Atiku, the Waziri of Adamawa state, I would say, sir, you have done your bit, you have held the democratic process. Your name has been written in gold. You have been persistent. It’s time you yield the ground; yield the position to a younger person. Don’t run. Play the father role”.

Hakeem Baba Ahmed had explained that his resignation from his position in Tinubu’s government is due to the Tinubu’s administration inaction and lack of genuine focus and effort to tackle Nigeria’s numerous challenges. He claimed that his personality detest docility and ineptitude which characterize the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He claims that Tinubu’s government do not have the needed commitment to tackle enormous issues bedeviling Nigerians

Commenting on the 2027 presidential election and the high political figures moving from the opposition parties to the ruling All Progressive Congress, Hakeem Baba Ahmed claimed that such defections have no electoral value to the APC and would be counterproductive against the APC in the 2027 presidential election. He added that the only strategy required by the People’s Democratic party (PDP) to win the APC in the 2027 presidential election is merely fielding a younger, vibrant and healthy politician who “has less skeleton in his cupboard”.
