The secret reason Tinubu sent Ooni to Jonathan revealed
Former president Goodluck Ebere Jonathan has revealed on the 2nd of May, 2025 that he received highly respected Yoruba monarch, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi in his Bayelsa home.
The former president made the disclosure through his Facebook page. He described the visit as a reflection of the understanding and mutual respect among the Nigerian people amid the ethnic and religious diversity of the country.
Goodluck Jonathan further thanked the monarch for the royal gift he brought for him, describing the gift as a “symbol of the country’s rich heritage and culture”. Goodluck Jonathan however failed to disclose the reason for such a visit from the Ooni of Ife.
Interestingly, an insider who is privy to the development, confided in the Reliant Nigeria News that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu had sent the Ooni of Ife to the former president.
According to the insider, former president Goodluck Jonathan is perceived by the Tinubu’s camp as the biggest threat to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection in 2027. The Tinubu’s camp believe that amid the gang up against president Tinubu by some northern political gladiators that former president Goodluck Jonathan is being wooed to run for the president in 2027.
Recall that recently, former presidential campaign director to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, Jubril Mustapha publicly urged Goodluck Jonathan to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
Recall also that in late 2022, Goodluck Jonathan was linked to contesting on the platform of the APC and how members of the Mi-Yetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association had secured the APC’s hundred million naira presidential form for Goodluck Jonathan who at that point was pictured in a secret meeting with the then chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu.
Hence, the Ooni’s visit to Goodluck Jonathan according to the insider, is a fact-finding one in which the Ooni alongside with other delegates seek to inquire if Goodluck Jonathan has interest in the 2027 presidential election. This is regarded very important to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu who aim scuttle the increasing opposition from northern leaders by uniting the Southern part of the federation necessary for his reelection.
Goodluck Jonathan had though publicly noted that he has no more interest in Political positions especially that of the Nigeria’s president; a revelation his wife, Patient Jonathan did also concur to.
However, the former president is said to be receiving pressure from northern interest groups and politicians who believe that Jonathan is a veritable and viable alternative to the Tinubu’s administration; administration widely believed to be inept and lagging in tackling the numerous challenges facing the most populous black nation in the world.
