President Tinubu writes supreme court over Fubara’s case

Amid the uncertainty over governor Simi Fubara’s political future and speculations about his impending reinstatement following his suspension by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his April’s broadcast, president Tinubu is reported to have responded to the suit filed by PDP governors challenging Fubara’s suspension.
President Bola Ahmed has written his defense to the Supreme Court of Nigeria over a suit filed by 12 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors challenging president Bola Ahmed Tinubu jurisdiction in suspending an elected governor, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly due to a political rift between governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
President Tinubu in his written defense to the Supreme Court, urged the court to throw out the suit by the PDP governors challenging the constitutionality of his declaration which was later gazetted and ratified by the lower and upper Chambers of the Nigeria’s National Assembly.
President Tinubu argued in his defense that his actions are within the constitutional provision of the president of Nigeria to prevent breakdown of law and order in any section of the country.
Similarly, the Reliant Nigeria News had reported that the Nigeria’s senate listed as a party in the suit, had written to the Supreme Court making similar request as the president. The Senate urged the Supreme Court to throw out the suit by the PDP governors as the president’s action was within his constitutional power to maintain law and order. The Senate also argued that the president followed the process stipulated in the Nigeria’s constitution for such a declaration.
The PDP governors signatory to the suit comprise: Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintri, governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom state, governor Bala Mohammad of Bauchi state, governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Ademola Adeleke of Osun state, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau state, Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Agbu Kefas of Taraba; and Governor Dauda of Zamfara.
However, Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori is reported to have withdrawn from the suit following his defection from PDP to the ruling party, APC.
However, unconfirmed reports claim that president Tinubu and Fubara’s meeting in London resulting in both reaching a pact for Fubara’s reinstatement. The report claim that president Tinubu mandated Sim Fubara to reconcile with former governor Nyesom Wike and also prepare for his defection to the APC as condition for his reinstatement. The report added that Fubara must agree not to run for a second tenure at the end of his current first tenure. These reports remain speculations as neither the presidency nor governor Fubara has confirmed any of the conditions reported. Though governor Fubara’s media aide confirmed that his principal met with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London; he however did not disclose the reason for the meeting.
