Spokesperson to the Nigerian presidency, Bayo Onanuga has made a subtle dig at Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election.
Bayo Onanuga through his Twitter handle urged Peter Obi to react to the reported gains of Nigeria’s naira in the foreign exchange market.
Bayo Onanuga while reacting to report by Bloomberg about Nigeria’s naira predicted rise in value and stability in the foreign exchange market, called the attention of Mr. Peter Obi to the development.
Bayo Onanuga sarcastically appealed to Peter Obi to in his usual manner of responding and speaking on issues of national significance, comment on the good news of Nigeria’s naira achieving some stability in its value at the foreign exchange market.
“The naira is holding its ground against the greenback and other currencies. This is good news, not bad news. I invite Mr. Peter Obi to retweet the exhilarating story”.
Bayo Onanuga is understood to be taunting Mr. Obi over his frequent reactions to event that impact the country negatively. As a result, he subtly enjoins Peter Obi to comment on naira stability in the foreign exchange market as he would do if the report were negative.
This comes a few days after Peter Obi was described by the spokesperson of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) as a prophet of doom who takes delight in events that negatively impact Nigeria and goes ahead to magnify such an event to score some political points.
While Peter Obi remains one of the strongest opposition voices in the country, it’s beeing speculated that the presidency considers Peter Obi a strong threat to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.
