The inquest into the actual cause of the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba widely known as Mohbad has lingered for several months.
To establish the actual cause of the singer’s controversial death has been herculean a task and desired result elusive.
On Friday, April 25th, 2025, crooner inquest into the singer’s death at a Magistrate court in Ikorodu, had a witness, a forensic pathologist, Dr. Uwom Eze who had conducted an independent autopsy on the remains of the singer to verify the reported outcome of the across the boarder autopsy by the Lagos State government, testified before the court to establish his findings on the probable cause of the singer’s death.
Recall that speculations had linked the death of the singer to varying factors: the singer was speculated to have died from drug abuse. Also, his wife, Omawunmi Aloba was also accused of inflicting fatal injury on the singer which led to his death. Similarly, Mohbad’s former boss, Naira Marley was also accused of physically assaulting and inflicting fatal injury on the deceased. While efforts since his remains were exhumed, have been tailored towards unraveling the actual cause of the singer’s death, the nurse who injected the singer in his Lekki home during some traumatic episodes before his passing, has also been accused of unprofessionalism and ineptitude which resulted in the singer’s death.
Importantly, Dr. Uwom Eze testimony before Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi on Friday from his independent pathological examination of the Mohbad’s remains, has seemingly given a clearer explanation to the possible cause of the singer’s death.
Dr. Eze told the court that pathological evidence shows that the deceased singer did not die from substance abuse as widely speculated on and off social media.
He also exonerated the nurse by stating that before his passing, the singer was administrated a “regulated dose” of painkillers and antihistamines– medications for pain and treatment of allergies. He thereafter stated that based on the medication giving to the singer before his passing, it can be implied that the singer experienced pain and discomfort.
Dr. Eze however pointed out a lacuna in the exercise – he said he could not establish the specific injection giving to the singer before his dying due to the level of decomposition of Mohbad’s remains.
Additionally, Dr. Eze revealed that during the postmortem, he discovered an injury on the back of Mohbad’s hand but ruled off the possibility of the injury causing Mohbad’s death due to it being superficial.
The forensic pathologist pointed out that due to the level of Mohbad’s remains decomposition, having been buried for a week and exhumed afterwards, the specific cause of the singer’s death can not be established. He however did not rule off the singer dying from ” severe and rapid hypersensitivity reaction” to medication administered on his before his passing.
