“Kwankwaso is a fish on dry land”, Ganduje reveals what he will do should Kwankwaso join APC

The national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and immediate past governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has openly declared his stance over Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso speculated move to the APC amid more than a decade of their political rivalry.
While speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, Ganduje stated that he would welcome Kwankwaso to the APC should he make the move in line with the APC’s leadership commitment to deepening democracy in Nigeria.
He described Kwankwaso as a fish out of water who needs help for its survival. According to him, the APC will not refuse to accommodate Kwankwaso whom he said is in need because a friend in need is a friend indeed.
He compared Kwankwaso’s political situation especially as his political allies in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are moving to the APC, to one who has no shelter and needs to be sheltered.
Former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had left the APC in 2018 alleging internal crisis in the party. He would join the NNPP through which he relaunched his political career, contesting in the 2023 presidential election as well as seeing to his party’s governorship election victory.
Amid the gale of defection from opposition parties to the APC, it is being speculated that Kwankwaso would make a calculated return to the APC; a move sources claim have the backing of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is reportedly considering picking Kwankwaso as his 2027 running mate at the expense of vice president Kashim Shettima.
Reports claim president Bola Ahmed Tinubu considers Kwankwaso as strategically important to his reelection in 2027 especially in the face of covert gang up against him by notable northern political elites.
However, Kwankwaso’s political rivalry with Ganduje has been long-standing and is regarded as the major obstacle on his way to the APC.
An insider had claimed that president Tinubu had compelled Kwankwaso and Ganduje to reach a pact; a pact that will make Kwankwaso relinquish the Kano state governorship to the Ganduje in the 2027 election while Kwankwaso becomes his running mate and placed in a viable position to succeed him in 2031 at the end of his second tenure.
