Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowere has revealed that late Nigerian televangelist and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor TB Joshua sought medical treatment for his ailment in Turkey despite being known for miraculous deeds.
Sowere revealed this at an interview with the KaaTruths Programme. He claimed that Pastor Joshua sought medical treatment in Turkey but kept the information away from the public.
The former presidential candidate said, “TB Joshua, when he had a stroke, didn’t even go to a Christian country. He went to Turkey. He spent time in Turkey treating his stroke. He was flown there by his private jet.”
According to the activist, TB Joshua’s secrecy about his health issues was part of what led to his death. However, a lot of people never knew that TB Joshua was treated in Turkey when he had a stroke.
Sowere also queried other religious leaders known for performing miracles for not intervening in TB Joshua’s health challenge. He made reference to one pastor Umueke of the Miracle of Dynamic Flame of Fire and Miracle Ministries who resides in Port Harcourt. Sowere demanded why “he had allowed a brother-man of God to die of a stroke,” given that he is known for miraculously curing stroke.
He said “TB Joshua died of stroke and we have a stroke magician in Port Harcourt. He could have just flown to Lagos, placed his hand on TB Joshua, and we would have TB Joshua with us today.”
Sowere popularly known for his activism against corruption, also called out high-ranking religious leaders and general overseers (GOs), for confusing and deceiving their followers by promoting supernatural healing while getting access to top-tier medical care in secret. He asserted that none of the general overseers, high-profile evangelists, and pastors joked with their health and that they used some of the best medical doctors all over the world to cure themselves. “They do all kinds of plastic surgery. Why do they deceive the masses that they can carry out what they know is scientifically impossible?” he asked.
Further, Sowore criticized the people for their reliance on religious solutions for health and social issues. He also stressed the need for functional healthcare systems. The #RevolutionNow movement crooner stated that he wants a country where there are fully functional hospitals that function so well such that even some of the pastors who couldn’t see well could get access to a doctor who would properly attend to their eyes so that they wouldn’t need to hide while undergoing their treatment.
Omoyele Sowore has built a reputation as a fearless activist and an unwavering critic of successive Nigerian governments. His activism dates back to his university days when he led protests against the military regimes of IBB and Abacha in 1992 and 1994. Also, in 2019 he led the #RevolutionNow movement, where he called for nationwide protests against the Muhammadu Buhari administration which led to him being detained for months. After his release, he still remained a vocal critic of Buhari’s regime.
