Senator Ali Ndume of the Borno South senatorial district, has called out President Tinubu for his political appointments.
In his recent interview on Arise TV, the vociferous senator asserted that President Tinubu favours the South West where he comes from in his political appointment more than he does other regions. He said such an act amounts to violating the federal character embedded in the Nigeria’s constitution and which mandates that all political appointment must reflect the federal character.
He noted that President Tinubu’s appointment since his coming into the office have never captured the diversity stipulated by section 14, sub-section 3 of Nigeria’s 1999 constitution. Stating that the figures are available to speak for themselves and that he isn’t just making an accusation against Tinubu.
He said : “But it’s a constitutional provision. Section 14 (3) of the constitution is very, very clear on that. When you look at it vis-a-vis the appointments made so far, and there are political appointments. And it is because of avoiding such infractions that the constitution clearly states that appointments, especially political appointments should reflect the federal character, and that is not the case here.”
To state his stand, the senator declared that he was only calling President Tinubu’s attention to an act he refers to as “infractions” so that he can work towards to correcting it to avoid any backlash in the future.
Addressing those who may want to regard his statement as a personal attack on President tinubu, Ndume opined that his statements were made in good fate as his constitutional duty.
He said:
“I know, as you rightly say, people look at me as somebody that is critical of the government. I have the right to do that in the first place. And in fact, that’s why I’m in the national assembly in the first place. Collectively, we are supposed to oversight the acts of Mr President and point out some of these irregularities. That is what we swore to do. It’s not personal.”
As for any attack that may come because of his assertion, Senator Ndume made it clear that he isnt afraid of ehat he had said in relation to President Tinubu’s appointments. He further added:
“Each one of us will stand before God and God will ask him to account for what he is responsible for. Besides, we are all in this government. What will we tell our people? When you have these figures out, it is already viral, it is already in circulation.”
Senator Ndume further noted that he knows that he would be attacked after his interview by sects he referred to as attack dogs, maga-dogs.” he stated that they would leave out the message and attack him. He also posited that the position he occupies is never about him, or the fact of him being a senator. He rather asserted that he has right to speak out against things going south. He also added that he has the right to protest as stipulated by by the constitution.
Again, he asserted, “But from tomorrow, those so-called Tinubu boys or people will start attacking Ndume. These are the facts”.
