Why May Edochie did not mourn her dead son– Rita Edochie reveals

Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has voiced her support for May Edochie, her cousin-in-law, who faced criticism for her decision to grieve privately for her late son, Kambilichukwu Edochie. Taking to Instagram, Rita condemned the perceived double standards of netizens, reminding them of their earlier backlash against Yul Edochie for his own approach to mourning.

Kambilichukwu, the first son of May and Yul Edochie, tragically passed away two years ago. Last week marked the second anniversary of his death, and while many expected May to publicly acknowledge the day, she chose to remain absent from social media. This decision sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens criticizing her for not mourning “properly” in the public eye.

Rita Edochie, known for her candid opinions, addressed the controversy in a detailed Instagram post. She questioned why anyone would dictate how May should grieve, especially after the same critics condemned Yul for moving on with his life after mourning their son.

“When Kambili, my great genius of a son, passed on, his dear father chose how to mourn him privately, then later returned to social media. You all complained and concluded that a man of 40 years and above must not be told how to mourn. But now, you want to lecture Queen May on how to grieve her own child. Do you tell a virtuous woman like Queen May what to do on her son’s remembrance day?” Rita wrote.

Rita also pointed out that May avoided all online activities on the anniversary of her son’s death. Even her close friend, Anita Joseph, whose birthday coincided with the day, was only celebrated by May a day later. Rita dismissed the criticism as a reflection of misplaced priorities and accused “hungry content creators” of stirring unnecessary drama.

Netizens had mixed reactions to Rita’s post. While some supported her stance and applauded May for prioritizing her mental health, others maintained that public figures have a responsibility to share such moments with their fans.

Rita ended her post with words of encouragement for May, urging her to continue thriving despite the negativity. “Keep reigning, my darling daughter Queen May Yul Edochie. You’re blessed beyond limits; no naysayer or propaganda can dent your person,” she concluded.

May Edochie has yet to address the criticism directly, choosing instead to remain focused on her personal journey.
