Why I do not want to live more than hundred years– pastor Adeboye

Nigerian popularly clergyman, Pastor Adeboye has declared that he doesn’t want to live beyond 100 years. When asked how long he would like to live, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, popularly known as Daddy G.O, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), stated that he flatly denied prayers for a life expectancy longer than a century.

In a speech, the revered cleric explained how some of his supporters pleaded with him to live to different ages. “Amen” was his response, he said, as they prayed for him to live to be eighty years old.

Similarly, he agreed to their wish that he would live to be ninety years old. But when the number increased, his response shifted. “And then one fellow got excited and said, ‘You will live to be 120,’ I said na lie! What will God say I have done wrong? I have been here for 70 years, He will now keep me here for another 50 years? In this world? Where today you have electricity, tomorrow you don’t have? But there was one lady who got really excited, and said, ‘You will live to be 140,’ I said no be me,” Daddy G.O. added.

The clergyman noted that while longevity of life was desirable, there was a limit, and he was more focused on the quality of life and his readiness for eternity.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye was appointed General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in 1981, succeeding the church’s founder, Reverend Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, who passed away in 1980.

Pastor Adeboye served as the General Overseer for RCCG Nigeria until January 7, 2017, when he announced his retirement from that position. This decision was said to have been influenced by new legal requirements set by the Financial Regulations Council of Nigeria, which stipulated that heads of non-profit organizations, including churches, could serve a maximum of twenty years and were not permitted to hand over to family members upon retirement.

Following his retirement as General Overseer for Nigeria, Daddy G.O. appointed Pastor Joshua Obayemi as his successor for RCCG Nigeria. However, Pastor Adeboye continues to serve as the General Overseer of RCCG worldwide, overseeing the church’s global operations across over 190 countries.
