Why Edwin Clark endorsed my presidential ambition – Peter Obi reveals

The former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has commemorated with friends, family and the people of Delta State over the death of one of their Elder Stateman, Chief Edwin Clark, who passed on recently. On a post made on his X account on the 18th of Februray, Obi on behalf of his family and the rest of the Obidient Movement extended his sympathathies to the Clark Family and the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF). The former flag bearer recounted how he was still in the mourning mood because of Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s death only to be hit with the “rude shock” of Mr. Edwin’s death.

 

Obi, went further to state that the elder statesman had supported his presidential ambition because he was a fan of good governance. He referred to the deceased as a revered father figure whom he noted was “a towering figure in the Nigeria’s socio-political landscape” and whom he also asserted was always on the front line for “peace, justice, equity and fairness in the nation.”

Noting that the elder statement was a big part of his journey to presidency, Obi said that,
he would always cherish the support he gave him during his Presidential Campaign. The 2023 Labour Party flag bearer wrote:
“His bold endorsement of my presidential journey highlights his passionate desire for a New Nigeria that promotes peace, progress, productivity, equity, and fairness.”

Further, Obi highlighted that Edwin Clark will be missed as a national treasure and would also be remembered “as a symbol of courage, truth , patrotism and resilience.”

Finally Peter Obi referred to Chief Edwin Clark’s death as a national loss and extended his condolence to the entire Ijaw Kingdom, government and the people of Dela State. He also prayed that God grants him eternal rest and continue to protect his family.
