The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has declared that he could cripple Russia’s economy if Russia’s Vladimir Putin refuses to accept the peace terms and halt attacks on Ukraine.
This declaration is a follow-up on the call made by the Ukrainian president to the US leader to take strict actions against Russia if they refuse to submit to the 30-day ceasefire agreement between the warring nations. During a peace meeting on Tuesday, delegates of both nations reached this 30-day cease-fire agreement in Saudia Arabia.
Recall that Saudi Arabia recently hosted high-level ceasefire talks in Jeddah, seeking to mediate a temporary truce between Ukraine and Russia.
The negotiations, facilitated by Saudi officials and attended by U.S. and Ukrainian representatives, led to Ukraine agreeing to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, with the possibility of an extension. This agreement is intended to temporarily stop hostilities and create room for further peace discussions.
Additionally, another part of the deal includes provisions for a prisoner exchange, an effort targeted at building mutual trust between both parties. Following Ukraine’s acceptance of the truce, the U.S. announced the resumption of military and intelligence support, which had been briefly halted.
Currently, Ukraine, Europe, and the US await Russia’s response to the 30-day ceasefire proposal. Also, it is expected that President Trump will send his men to Russia for official talks with Russia’s Vladimir Putin toward the end of the week.
On the other hand, there has not been a response from the Kremlin in regard to the ceasefire proposal. Trump however informed reporters that there has been some positive message, but a positive message is nothing.
Later, the White House reported that Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, would be in Moscow later this week. President also added. “It’s up to Russia now, Our people are going to Russia right now as we speak. And hopefully, we can get a ceasefire from Russia.”
The Republican ruler also added that he could “do things financially that would be very bad for Russia, but that he doesn’t want to do that because all he wants to get is peace.”
Trump also added, “We haven’t spoken to him yet with substance, because we just found out. We’re going to know very soon. I’ve gotten some positive messages, but a positive message means nothing.”
When asked if the Russian leader would back the cease-fire proposal, the US president also confirmed that the situation was a very serious one that could trigger a third world war.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio has asserted that in relation to the talk, “If their response is no, it would make their intentions clear.”
Also, UK Defence Secretary John Healey has advised President Putin to “accept the ceasefire, start negotiations and end the war.” He also added: “I say to Putin, over to you now.”
On the other hand, President Putin was pictured last night in the Kursk region of Russia for the first time since Ukraine attacked the area.
