In what seems to have become a regular occurrence in Rivers state, there are fresh speculations that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is mobilizing the 27 pro-Wike members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Currently, in a recent video circulating on social media, former Niger Delta militant leader Mujahid Asari-Dokubo issued a stern warning to Tinubu and Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, against any attempts to impeach Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Recall that the power tussle between Wike and his successor began almost immediately when Fubara assumed office in 2023. Various reports suggested that Wike, having played a significant role in Fubara’s election, wanted to maintain some level of control over the state, but Fubara resisted the attempt, causing a prolonged power struggle.
Different prominent members of the society like President Tinubu and the Bishop of the Anglican Communion in charge of Rivers have summoned them to straighten out the issue, but both parties have refused to heed the summons or the pieces of advice. The tension between both parties became so bad that about 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly defected from the People’s Democratic Party to All Progressive Congress and were tagged the pro-Wike legislator.
Also, in January 2024 when the Rivers State Assembly curtailed Governor Fubara’s authority to appoint caretaker committees for local government councils. As of January 2025, Wike publicly rejected reconciliatory attempts with Governor Fubara, stating that the governor failed to implement President Tinubu’s directives aimed at resolving their dispute.
Meanwhile, in a recent Video, Asari-Dokubo has come out to sternly warn Wike not to aid the impeachment of his successor, stating that Ijaw people are unforgiving and adding that he may never step foot into Rivers State if he does. He began the video by advicing the president to listen.
He stated: “I stake my life, I stake my livelihood for you to become president.” If in your government I have to stake everything to tell you the truth, that’s okay, but the result, you will see. I say my mind, if you don’t like it, it is okay. If you allow Wike to push this as he is doing. It will be very difficult for him to even come to River State. It will be difficult for that his 27 House of Assembly members to even have a place to stay in river state”
Also, the Dokubo opined that he stake everything he owned and his life to support Tinubu to become president and he is also staking it again to tell the president the truth. He added: “it will be difficult to impeach Sim and bring a governor. Go and ask in Ondo State, Go and ask in Delta state the furry of the ijaw people. Alamieyeseigha’s impeachment was ijaw-ijaw.
The person that replaced Alamieyeseigha was an Ijaw person. Goodluck Jonathan, he became Vice-president and President. The earlier you here this the better. Call Wike, call Sim to maintain the status-quo. This is not Alamieyeseigha’s matter. He rounded Up by saying,”try this one and see, a word is enough for the wise.”
