As 2027 draws near, political parties are finetuning their choice of candidacy and are taking counsel on it. Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has offered strategic counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the PDP should consider fielding Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and former Senate President Bukola Saraki as their presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively. Primate Ayodele believes that this duo possesses the requisite leadership qualities to restore the party’s prominence on the national stage.

This is not the first time Primate Ayodele has provided political insights concerning key figures in Nigeria. In 2018, ahead of the 2019 elections, he predicted that Bukola Saraki would rule Nigeria for just four years if elected, emphasizing that Saraki was more suited for the presidency than other roles.

The PDP has faced significant challenges in recent electoral cycles, losing the last two presidential elections to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party is currently grappling with internal leadership crises, with some members calling for the removal of the acting Chairman, Umar Damagum, expressing concerns over his leadership.

Primate Ayodele’s recent statements also touched upon former Vice President Abubakar Atiku. He advised Atiku against contesting in the 2027 elections, suggesting that such a move could bury the PDP as a party.

“Atiku will not be an answer to PDP and if he comes out to contest again, it will be the final burial of PDP. He doesn’t have what it takes to remove Tinubu from office.”

In his statement, the Primate asserted that the best Atiku can do is support a good candidate and the best person for PDP at the moment is Jonathan if the party wants to be victorious in the 2027 polls.

The clergyman’s insights have historically been a blend of spiritual foresight and political analysis. His recent recommendations showcase the importance of strategic candidate selection and internal unity within the PDP as they navigate the complexities of Nigeria’s political environment.
