Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has raised concerns after the Ogun State government sealed his uncompleted building and hotel in Sango-Ota, citing illegal development.
The Ogun State Planning and Development Authority carried out the enforcement, as indicated in a notice of contravention shared by Portable on Instagram. The singer, in a series of videos, lamented that his customers and workers were affected during the operation.
In his social media post, the ‘Zazu’ crooner alleged that during the operation, about 20 people, including artists and customers, were arrested, and several cars, motorcycles, and phones were seized. He also claimed that drinks from his bar were taken.
“I believe in Eledumare. Nobody can fool me, Omo Olohun. They packed everybody, took more than 20 people, both artists and customers. They packed cars, bikes, including people’s phones and jobs. All the people that came for help, they packed them and sealed my new uncompleted building and hotel. Why?” Portable said in his video.
The singer further argued that his property serves as a business hub where he books events, promotes artists, and provides jobs for people. He stated that he had previously requested government intervention to fix roads in the area and had even contributed to electrification projects before officials sealed off his property.
The Ogun State Planning and Development Authority has yet to issue an official response. However, this is not the first time the state government has cracked down on illegal developments. Similar actions have been taken in the past against businesses and individuals found violating planning regulations.
Portable, known for his outspoken nature, has called on the government to reconsider its decision, stressing that the property is his means of livelihood. The incident has sparked reactions online, with many calling for a fair resolution between the singer and the authorities.
