Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has made headlines by openly challenging the revered General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye. This controversy arose after Pastor Adeboye delivered his prophecies for the year 2025 during the church’s Crossover Service held in Shimawa, Ogun State.
Pastor Adeboye, known for his annual prophetic declarations, predicted that 2025 would be a landmark year, marked by significant challenges that many might find difficult to endure. While his message was received with solemnity by members of the congregation and followers of the RCCG worldwide, Portable expressed stark opposition to these declarations.
In a video that quickly went viral, Portable labeled Pastor Adeboye’s prophecies as lies, accusing the clergyman of instilling fear rather than fostering faith among Nigerians. “You lie! Those bad things you’re talking about won’t happen to me or my family,” the singer exclaimed. Portable went on to assert his belief that 2025 would be a year of grace, abundance, and blessings for himself and his loved ones, rejecting the ominous undertones of the prophecy.
Portable’s bold comments have ignited a wave of reactions across social media and public forums. While some criticized the singer for his perceived disrespect toward a revered spiritual leader, others praised his confidence and refusal to accept negative forecasts about the future.
The incident has also sparked broader discussions about the influence of religious prophecies on societal expectations and individual mindsets. Many commentators have questioned whether such predictions serve to inspire hope and faith or contribute to fear and uncertainty in a country already grappling with numerous socio-economic challenges.
Pastor Adeboye, who is widely respected for his humility and spiritual insight, has yet to respond to Portable’s remarks. The RCCG has also remained silent, leaving room for speculation about how the church might address the controversy.
