Nigerian author and filmmaker Onyeka Nwelue has publicly accused former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of actions that he claims have led to the deterioration of his health and career. In a recent social media post, Nwelue detailed a distressing experience during a hospital visit, where he received an unexpected call from Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. Soyinka inquired about Nwelue’s well-being, to which Nwelue responded by revealing that his only kidney was failing.

Nwelue expressed frustration over his unsuccessful attempts to communicate with El-Rufai over the past two years. He sought to understand the reasons behind actions that he believes have severely impacted his career, which he had dedicated years to building. Nwelue also mentioned efforts to reach out to El-Rufai’s children and close associates, all of which were in vain.

In his statement, Nwelue alleged that instead of focusing on journalist David Hundeyin, El-Rufai chose to target him, resulting in the destruction of his professional life. He concluded his message by holding El-Rufai responsible for his declining health and impending death, urging the public to consider this information when evaluating El-Rufai’s suitability for the presidency.

He wrote: “If you haven’t started working on this, please consider: On Saturday, while I was in Emergency in hospital, out of the blues, Professor Wole Soyinka called my friend’s phone number and said he wanted to speak to me. As soon as he heard my voice, he asked: “What is wrong?” I told him about my only kidney dying away.

“For two years, I have tried to reach El Rufai (who is not a Nobel Laureate), to understand what I did to him, but I could not reach him. Tried reaching his children and people close to him. He was after @DavidHundeyin. Instead of focusing on David, he destroyed a career of mine that took me many years to build”.
