The emir of Kano Emirate, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has vowed never to offer his advice to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu government in the face of Nigeria’s worsening economy.

Emir Sanusi Lamido while speaking in Lagos on Wednesday 15th of January, 2025 at the 21st Anniversary of Fawehinmiism (Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture 2025),revealed that he has deliberately decided not to advise Tinubu’s government on its underperforming economic policies which have plunged the country into unprecedented economic decline.

According to him, those in Tinubu’s government are his friends but have decided to treat him disrespectfully and questionably. As a result, rather than offer his advice to the Tinubu’s government to steer the country out of its current economic mud, he has chosen to remain reticent.

“You know they’re my friends, but if they don’t behave like friends, I don’t behave like a friend. So I watch them being stooges. And they don’t even have people with credibility who can come and explain what they are doing. I am not going to help. I started out helping, but I am not going to help. I am not going to discuss it. Let them come and explain to Nigerians why the policies that are being pursued are being pursued”, he said

“Honestly, I can give a few points that are contrary, that explain perhaps what we’re going through and how it was totally predictable, most of it, and maybe avoidable. But I am not going to do that”.

This happens to be Sanusi Lamido first public comment on Nigeria’s failing economy since the outset of his emirship tussle.

This also comes a few days after a court of appeal validated his reinstallation as the 16th emir of Kano; granting him the much needed respite at least temporary as his rival, Aminu Bayero, the 15th emir of Kano who appears to have the support of the central government, seems to be preparing to appeal the decision of the appeal court that validated his dethronement by the Kano state government and the reinstallation of Sanusi Lamido.

Hence, Sanusi Lamido is understood to have subtly accused the Tinubu’s government of being responsible for his ordeal, the reason he would not from his rich experience as a former governor of Centra bank of Nigeria, offer them his much needed economic advice.
