The governor of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has called on past Northern leaders to be accountable for the challenges in the region.
The governor called upon the Northern past leaders who held political office in the last 20 years to take responsibility for the region’s challenges and offer a sincere apology to the people. This was revealed in an interview where Governor Sani asserted that anyone who has been in a position of leadership within that period owes Northern Nigerians an explanation, and more importantly, an apology for the hardship they are currently facing. He stated:
“I believe every leader who has served in the last two decades should take a hard look in the mirror and ask themselves if they truly did right by the people. We have let our people down, and it’s time we admit that.”
Additionally, the governor stated that he is open to criticism of his administration, and that he has no issues with people holding the government accountable.
Meanwhile, the governor stressed his displeasure about Northern past leaders who have made themselves critics of President Tinubu’s government.
Sani opined that the issue with northern Nigeria didn’t start a few years ago, rather it has been in existence since the past 20 years. He further noted that the leaders who occupied government seats during that period have a hand in the problem.
He added “Why did we fight the military in the past? Because we were fighting for the people, we weren’t fighting to contest for the election. We were fighting because we want democracy to be entrenched in Nigeria. I don’t have problem with those criticizing the government .
In relation to those who have become the crirics of the government, Sani added “But when you’re fighting a government that you were part of, you contributed to the situation where it is today. Anybody from Northern Nigeria who held a political office in the last 20 years, all of us must look at ourselves in the mirror and apologize to the people of Northern Nigeria, we let them down.”
Further confirming that The problem of northern Nigeria wasn’t created two years ago, he stated that he can provide the statistics and data that shows that the North has been down for the past two years. He also asserted that he knows the poverty index of Northern Nigeria and also the statistics of people in Northern Nigeria who are financially handicapped.
