Eric Sekou Chelle: What Victor Osimhen said about new super eagles coach

Amid the controversy that followed the appointment of Mali national, Eric Sekou Chelle as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Victor Osimhen has reportedly reacted to the development.

Many football analysts and the majority of former Super Eagles players including Jay Jay Okocha, Victor Anichebe, Kanu Nwankwo and others, have questioned the standard the NFF applied in hiring coach Eric Sekou Chelle at the expense of coach Augustine Eguavon whose stint with the Super Eagles was not bad.

Analysts and commentators argue that by their credentials, Eric Sekou Chelle does not have any coaching edge over Augustine Eguavon nor the needed experience to effectively manage some high profile super eagles of Nigeria players. Hence, some analysts refer to the appointment of Eric Sekou Chelle in place of Augustine Eguavon as an irrational downgrade.

However, Victor Osimhen who remains one of the most valuable players in the super eagles squad in his response to the controversy generated by Eric Sekou Chelle’s appointment by NFF, expressed his unwavering commitment and dedication to the super eagles team.

He stated that he is not heavily reliant on a coach nor vulnerable to his manager, according to him, he does not play to impress his coach but to accomplish his desire which is to score goals for his team and win trophies.

“I’m not a player who play because of the relationship I have with my coach, I don’t play to impress coaches, I play to score and win a trophy for my team”, he said.

Speaking specifically about the appointment of Eric Sekou Chelle as the super eagles head coach, Victor Osimhen noted that he does not have any negative feeling for the development as along as the coach irrespective of his credentials, is dedicated to his job and committed to accomplishing something worthwhile with the team.

“I’m not motivated by a coach, so a new coach in super Eagles won’t affect my passion in this job, I’m dedicated to lifting the AFCON Trophy 2025 with my colleagues”.

Osimhen also stated that he will only oppose the coach of the national team if his mission negates the common good of the squad and the squad’s goal and objectives which is to win trophies.

“Yeah if the coach has any other mission than lifting the trophy that’s where a problem may come in, because I play to win and not to entice a coach or people.

“I pledge my support to whatever development that would earn us the trophy, I love my country”.
