David Hundeyin, an investigative Nigerian journalist has described controversial whistleblower Bristol Isaac widely known as PIDOM on social media as a fraud.
David Hundeyin in a stunning revelation, disclosed to the public through his X handle how Bristol Isaac (PIDOM) fraudulently extorted ignorant Nigerians on social media through his sought for donations to the needy and sick. PIDOM would conjure stories about help-needing people through his X handle and appeal for donations for them.
“I have since come to understand that the entire “PIDOM” thing was completely contrived. It was a cheap gimmick for extracting donations from the public under the guise of public interest whistleblowing”, David Hundeyin wrote in a lengthy tweet.
“This random Port Harcourt abobi saw my work and its crowdfunding model, and as a typical Nigerian, couldn’t rest until he thought, “How can I take advantage of this and collect my own share?” That’s how he came up with the gimmick of calling himself an “investigative journalist” and threatening Nigerians every 4 market days for not sending him money.
“PIDOM” was just a content creator using a successful gimmick that even I fell for at a stage (after I had spent close to a year initially ignoring him because I thought his work was crude, his persona was hubristic, and his constant threatening the public for not sending him money was suspicious)”
The alleged fraudulence of the controversial whistleblower was brought to bare following discovery of how he had sought donations from the public through his disguised personal bank accounts while claiming that the bank accounts belonged to a helpless sick and hospitalized patient whom he sought to help. Also, records of his making several withdrawals from the said bank accounts which allegedly belong to him, have been reportedly obtained.
Amid the allegation, David Hundeyin has distanced himself from Bristol Isaac who had accused the investigative journalist of sabotage.
David Hundeyin recounted how Bristol Isaac attempted to entrap him while he was detained by the Nigeria secret police. He said Bristol Isaac compromised his sought for social justice and reportedly entered into an agreement with the Nigeria’s leadership to entrap him. He said while Bristol Isaac was being held in detention, prior his disappearance being publicized, Bristol Isaac called his phone number through a phone number which he discovered belonged to an agent of the Secret police. In the phone conversation he had with Bristol Isaac, the whistleblower revealed his X handle login details to him and urged him to access his account and continue to make tweets on his behalf.
David Hundeyin explained further that by his wit, he understood that Bristol Isaac was working with the Nigeria’s secret police to entrap him. If he had accessed his X handle, he would be accused of being responsible for Bristol Isaac disappearance since the public were still oblivious of the Whistleblower’s disappearance.
In his words: “It protected me from what they had planned. The idiot got his brother – or whoever that was – to give me his Twitter login details, with the express instruction to start tweeting in his voice from his account. Think about the implication of that. If I had poster even a single such tweet, with a paper trail somewhere showing that I had obtained his login details somehow, and then he was later officially declared missing or dead, do you know what that would make me? It would make me the guy who impersonated a missing or dead person, having somehow obtained his Twitter login details”.
