Dr. Baba-Ahmed has advised the Nigerian president to give room for the younger generation to run for presidency.
Reports assert that he made this statement via a letter dated on Wednesday. Also, he advised the presidency to close the chapter on the thought of getting re-elected in 2027 and give way for the younger Nigerian generation to run.
The former presidential adviser asserted that the reason for this is that the President’s best shot at leaving the political arena with his dignity intact would be to willingly take his mind off getting re-elected and give room for a younger person to come in as the leader. Hakeem Ahmed also added that, the stepping aside isn’t for Tinubu’s opponent but for an entirely different and younger person that has the capacity to push the country forward with novel ideas and better energy.
Hakeem also noted that leaders of his time have done theirs. Hence, it will be dignifying for President Tinubu and the APC to decide to give way to a younger energy. Doing this will not only give way to fresher ideas from a younger voice, but it will also create room for peaceful transition into power. This in turn will positively impact the future of Nigerian political culture, adding real unity and progress to its ethics.
Additionally Dr. Hakeem urged Tinubu to ponder on the type and worth of the legacy that history will record for him. He pointed out that the president was in control of one thing his opponents lack: the power to give a better life to the common man in Nigeria. He then cautioned him to put it into proper use. He also admonished him to be an observer in the 2027 race , and not to give room for the race to consume him.
Baba-Ahmed, a one-time permanent secretary to the Kaduna State government who newly stepped down from his position as the SSA to the vice president. He pointed out that Tinubu’s government met a difficult economy and an already-tired set of Nigerians. He however, called out the government for its lack of will to change the status quo it met on ground into something that can yield a better leadership.
The political adviser further criticised Mr. President’s renewed hope campaign calling it empty promises and unfulfilled campaign statements. Further Stamping out the tagline, Hakeem noted that it was mere words and was not a proper governing strategy. He further called out the president for the calibre of persons who make up his cabinet. He regarded the president’s cabinet as persons unworthy of any form of administrative function, yet are tasked with creating a better and improved life for the public.
Further reiterating, hinting that he has never been in an individual meeting with the president, Dr. Baba-Ahmed Further cautioned the president about his desire to re-enter the ring for 2027 at the expense of proper governance. He reminded Tinubu that he has about 2 extra years to redeem himself by refocusing on good governance that would benefit the populace.
In order not to lose his political dignity and the goodwill of the people, Hakeem called on Tinubu to hang off the presidential race for 2027.
