Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan advises Nigerian leaders to take a cue from Governor Otti of Abia State. He made the statement at the University of Port Harcourt 1980 Alumni Dinner and Award ceremony on Saturday, in Umuahia Abia State.

During the event themed, “Celebrating Excellence and Service to Humanity,” Jonathan who was supposed to be a special guest was represented by Godknows Ighali.

According to Ighali, Jonathan noted that Governor Otti’s presence, and what he has done and is still doing show that he thoroughly planned for his leadership. He noted:

“Before, in Abia State, once they say Aba made, people would laugh, but today, people are scrambling for Aba made. Let governance in Nigeria take a cue from what you are doing in Abia State; the intentionality of leadership – the leadership that was voted to make a change. Nigerian leaders should strive to make a change as Governor Alex Otti is making in Abia State”

In his opening speech, I ghali who also chaired the occasion applauded the UNIPORT Alumni body for its positive contribution to Nigeria’s political development, While applauding their socio-economic contribution to the country’s growth, Ighali asserted that the University of Port Harcourt stands tall as the only Nigerian University that has alumni members who have served in the positions of six governors, a vice president and a one-time president in the person of Goodluck Jonathan.

This is not the first time Governor Otti is receiving accolades for his excellent job from past Nigerian leaders. Recent reports stated that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo applauded the governor for a job well done on the 11th of April. This took place during inauguration ceremony of a newly constructed road by Governor Otti. While inaugurating the road that cuts across Umuahia to Uzuakoli to Akara down to Alayi and Abiriba, Obasanjo referred to Otti as an epitome of a good leader. He also asserted that the governor’s good deeds in his state have come to show that “whatever is bad in the country today can be made good tomorrow.”

Also at the reunion, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, applauded Governor Otti for the huge face-lift he had given Abia State in not more than two years in office which includes the large development in the electricity sector, road development, proper waste disposal management, among others.

In response to this, Governor Otti expressed his gratitude to the Alumni group for choosing to have their event in his State 12 years after its initial event. He further informed them that his neighbour, the governor of Bayelsa State can’t wait to host the next reunion given that he is one of them. He further told the body that when they next visit, they would be greeted with a tour of the government healthcare facilities that were slated for reconstruction.
